In separate indictments, appellant, Donald Sparks, was charged with the felony offenses of murder of Deborah Lauren Alexander (Lauren), and aggravated assault of Samuel Keith Thompson (Sammy). Appellant pleaded not guilty to the charges before a single jury, which found him guilty of both offenses. The jury sentenced appellant to 75 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the murder of Lauren, and 10 years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the aggravated assault of Sammy, and the trial court ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
